CONCEPT

The basic design strategy is based on the decision of a productive dialogue with the existing apartment block building. According to the timeline of the renewal of the area the process of change becomes more important than the actual result. The shown proposal is therefore showing just a certain stage of this development process and is not a final result.

Three design strategies are developed on the site to achieve this goal. Although they have common conceptual approaches their formal appearance is quite different. The green area is seen as a public park where borders of privacy can be arranged quite flexible according to the personal needs. Besides the connectivity between the adjacent sites should be improved.

EXISTING APARTMENT BLOCK

Based on the existing physical structure a new programme of mixed usage is implemented. Communication facilities should help to improve the living quality for the people inside and outside the building and offer a possibility for social integration.  The ground levelof the existing blocks is partly opened in order to enhance movement in all directions. The park is intended to become an active part of the building and vice versa.

PIXELPARK

The main goal of this concept is the development of single-family like housing structures, which could be also densified into community housing spaces.  The borders between private spaces and the surrounding public park can be set up individually with the help of a wide range of 2D and 3D landscaping elements. The houses are based on the architectural language of modernism. As this language is quite easily to handle and offers a lot of possibilities for variation it is seen as an appropriate tool for developing individual styles.
